The Dakota Zoo is a zoo in Bismarck, North Dakota located on the banks
of the Missouri River.
The Dakota Zoo currently receives over 100,000 visitors per year and
is home to over 125 species of animals.
The Dakota Zoo began with the 67 acre Marc and Betty Christianson Farm
located at what was then the north edge of Bismarck.
In 1987, the Dakota Zoo was challenged by the Bismarck Tribune to
develop a Masterplan which would outline the orderly and organized
development of the Zoo. This challenge was accepted by the Zoo board
and a plan was developed.
Masterplan serves as a “roadmap” of where the Dakota Zoo is going in
the future.
In 1988, the Beyond the Bear Necessities capital campaign began. This
campaign, the Zoo's first ever attempt to raise large sums of money,
raised $1.2 million.

For a city the size of Bismarck, the Dakota Zoo is a real gem. It is
constantly expanding and modernizing with nice habitats for the
animals and good variety.
The Dakota Zoo, located in Bismarck, ND, has been wowing visitors with
a wide variety of unique and exciting animals since 1961. Today, over
100,000 people walk through our gates each year to view the 600-plus
birds and mammals that call Dakota Zoo their home.
In addition to our animal exhibits, The Dakota Zoo offers a variety of
other fun things for the entire family. Hop on board the Tribune
Express or the Leach Express, our own trains, and take a 20-minute
train ride through the Zoo.
The Dakota Zoo was visited the 2006 Best City Attraction and it's easy
to see why. Getting to the zoo from the center of Bismarck where we
stayed was very easy.

Seeing as how I couldn't find a group dedicated to the Dakota Zoo in
Bismarck, North Dakota, I decided to create one myself.
That said, the rules for the group are pretty simple. If you didn't
take the picture at the Dakota Zoo, then it doesn't belong in the
pool.
The Dakota Zoo has been in operation since 1961 and has
grown over the years. As a result of a fundraising campaign the zoo
now features several new wonderful exhibits including the Bear
Habitat, a River Otter exhibit, and a Canine and small animal exhibit.

The Dakota Zoo, located in Bismarck, is the largest zoo in North

attraction as well as a celebrated facility with a history city
residents are proud of.
The Dakota Zoo is open longest in
summer, from 10:00am through to 8:30pm from June through August. This
is also the time of year when the largest number of tourists visit.

The Dakota Zoo began on 67-acres of farmland owned by Mark and Betty
Christianson, located on the northern edge of Bismarck, North Dakota.
Today, the Dakota Zoo remains both self sufficient and self supporting
and raises money through admissions fees, concessions and animal
sales, membership fees, the adopt an animal program and private
donations.
