The Moscow Zoo (Russian: Московский зоопарк) was founded in 1864 by a
group of professor-biologists, K.F. Rulje, S.A. Usov and A.P. Bogdanov,
from the Moscow State University. In 1919, the zoo was nationalized.
The Moscow zoo has over 6000 animals representing more than 1000
species and covers an area of about 21.5 hectares.
The zoo studies animals behaviour, feeding and reproduction, and
breeds rare endangered species.

Moscow Zoo in Moscow Visitors can sometimes be a little wary of
Russian zoos, but there's no reason to be - the dedication of the
keepers to the animals is evident, and under-funding problems have by
and large been resolved.
The idea for the Moscow Zoo was first put forward in 1857 by zoology
Professor A.P. Bogadanov. The plan came to fruition 7 years later,
when 300 animals, including 2 tigers and 2 lions, went on display.

The Moscow Zoo remained open during World War II, though much
of the park was destroyed. The zoo contains more than 3,000 specimens

The Zoo is funny place for children or for some people.
Moscow Zoo takes attention crane breeding, especially rear species.
Cranes began to breed in Moscow zoo since 1984 (Sarus and White-naped
Cranes). The first chicks from Siberian Crane were got in 2001.

The Moscow Zoo situated in the very center of the Russian capital is

Gorillas in the Moscow zoo will soon watch TV programs, zoo director
Vladimir Spitsyn says. He adds that a TV set will be put into the
winter cage where a couple of gorillas live.
